Avocado isn’t just a food, it’s a lifestyle-at least, that’s what those who are celebrating Burger King launching avocado burgers say. While some have dismissed avocado as a fad food, we say millennials are onto something: the avocado trend is here to stay. Burger King must agree too because they’ve launched a huge range of avocado menu items this year.
How the avocado trend made it to Burger King
A few years ago, only those in the know were big on avocado. These days, it’s popular with most of Singapore’s working professionals and young people. At first, it seemed like one of the food trends that would come and go. But if anything, it’s only become more loved thanks to the rise in Mexican food popularity and its health benefits. On top of that, it’s an incredibly versatile ingredient that works with everything-including burgers. So, it’s no surprise that Burger King has taken its green goodness under its wing.
Burger King’s avocado range now includes a selection of ice-cream-based desserts, a breakfast sandwich and two burgers. Given the success of Burger King launching avocado burgers, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more avocado dishes on the menu soon.
- For dessert, the Avocado Banana Ice Cream: Starting with dessert is sometimes frowned upon, but Burger King never conforms to convention. That’s why it started its new avocado range with a line of desserts using ice cream made from avocado and bananas. This velvety soft-serve can be found in three menu items-the Avocado Banana Cone, the Avocado Banana Sundaes (with strawberry or chocolate fudge sauce), and the Fruity Floats (with Coke, Fanta Grape or Minute Maid). While avocado is usually seen as a savoury food, you’ll be surprised how well it works in sweet treats.
- For breakfast, the Avocado Croissan’wich: The Avocado Croissan’wich isn’t just a mouthful in name-it fills your mouth with tasty goodness too. A portmanteau of croissant and sandwich, the Croissan’wich uses a croissant bun instead of bread. It starts out with a layer of scrambled egg, a turkey sausage burger patty and a gooey slice of cheese. Next, Burger King adds creamy slices of avocado (which go great with the buttery croissant) and tops it all off with crispy turkey bacon. You can grab it in a meal with a hot drink and a side of hash browns, but it’s just as filling on its own.
- For lunch and dinner, the Avocado Burgers: And of course, what would Burger King be without burgers? The first of the two latest avocado menu additions is the Avocado Tendergrill Chicken. Like the regular Tendergrill, this burger features soft and juicy flame-grilled chicken. But this time, avocado slices are added-the perfect smooth contrast to the crisped meat patty. Similarly, the Avocado Whopper uses the same great beef patty, adding slices of this creamy fruit for an overall flavour reminiscent of Mexican food. Both burgers come on a sesame-seed bun with tomatoes, lettuce and mayo. Enjoy them on their own, or fill up by adding a drink and fries.
