Singaporeans seem to have a growing appreciation for burgers in recent years. Not that we’ve hated burgers or anything, but fast food chains have been introducing “premium” ingredients and options for burgers as of late (i.e angus beef, Monterey jack cheese and Ciabatta breads). However fast food joints are no match for joints like The Burger Office, whom pride themselves in crafting delicious burgers in a variety of combinations that are both localised and yet includes ingredients that would satisfy a connoisseur.
Located conveniently in Katong, the Burger Office is housed under the same roof by “TWOPIGSFLY” – a beautiful concept of marrying delicious cuisine from various stalls with craft beers and wines.
The Burger Office has quite impressive menu that’s separated into Classic, Local and Specialty Burgers. Its Classic burgers include the Burger Office Burger (BOB), which includes the Homemade Burger Office Sauce, and the BLT, which is basically heaps of bacon sandwiched between buns and lettuce. Yum.
Chili Crab
A standout from the local burger menu, we sampled the Chili Crab –a local favourite realized into a giant, flavor packed burger with a whole soft shell crab, lettuce, tomato, sunny side up and homemade chili crab sauce.
Disclaimer: the chili crab sauce used here doesn’t resemble the actual sweet & spicy gravy commonly used in hawkers, but instead leans towards the salty, spicy shrimp paste (or sambal) used in Hokkien Prawn Mee. We’re not complaining though, it’s definitely a boon for sambal lovers!
Pulled Pork Burger
Picked from the specialty burger menu, the pulled pork burger is a delicious and undeniable American classic, and after taking our first bite, we understood why. It’s a meat lover’s dream –strips of tender BBQ pulled pork, homemade coleslaw and Gruyere cheese are sandwiched between two soft, buttery buns. Each bite releases a gush of savory, barbequed goodness, balanced by the creaminess and slight sweetness of the coleslaw.
We wish we had more space in our tummies as there are other standout flavours that are worth trying like the Avocado Bacon, Pestorella, Satay, Fat (BOB) and the Grate Baconnings. Besides quirky burgers, the bar also serves sides and bar bites like Chicken Pops, Fried Calamari Rings, Buffalo Wings and Sweet Potato Fries (among many others).
Of course the selection of craft beers are worth mentioning too. Hailing from Norway and Japan, burgers are best enjoyed with Lervig beer like the White Dog, Winter Ale and Pisner (among others). The bar also serves Pure Blonde Lager, Great White Macs and Pilsner Urquell on draught.
If you are not in the mood for beers, there are also ciders like the Koppaberg Naked Apple, Gaymers Tropial Cider and Magners. The bar also stocks up on wines, champagnes, whiskies and vodka.
With a delicious line up of quirky burgers and bar bites coupled with an extensive selection of drinks to pair with it, the Burger Office in TWOPIGSFLY is the perfect destination for after-work food and TGIF drinks –but lazing around on a Sunday with some craft beer and chicken pops doesn’t seem like a bad idea either.
