You love burgers? But hate the greasiness? Don’t despair, as there is an alternative reality. Being totally in love with the world of burgers, De Burg in the Kallang CT Hub will transport you into burger heaven.
Open for lunch and dinner, this burger restaurant radiates a friendly and welcoming vibe. Upon entering the shop, one finds an entire wall filled with messages and (burger) love notes from previous customers. Browsing though the menu, my eyes kept frequently wondering off onto the wall, reading the testimonials in all kinds of different languages.
The menu of De Burg is quite extensive and filled with curious signature and celebrity burgers, such as ‘the Dee Kosh’ – named after the Power98FM DJ Dee Kosh. All of which are also available for delivery via FoodPanda.sg. No matter if you like pork, chicken, beef or seafood, there is plenty of choice.
De Burg | Rich Flavours In The Perfect Order
Whenever I eat burgers, I love combining them with a good beer. Chef Andrew recommended that I try Innstadt’s Passauer Weisse, which is a German-style dark Hefeweizen. Expecting a heavy aftertaste, this unusual combination was strong in taste, but still smooth enough to not overpower my food.
Although I love burgers, I possibly couldn’t do my De Burg review on my own. My companion and I decided on two burgers and one salad – more we didn’t dare to eat without fearing to explode.
Our first choice was the ‘De Burg signature burger’, which came with a 200g Australian beef patty, a Portobello mushroom, salad, BBQ sauce, cheese and onion. What I instantly liked about their burgers was that they are rather horizontal than vertical, as I often struggle to eat burgers that are much taller than wide.
But there are more things that I liked. Starting with two slightly toasted bun halves, I was glad to see no experiments. The bun is supposed to hold everything together and shouldn’t be the main ingredient, which luckily wasn’t the case. Right on top of the bottom bun was the beef patty, followed by the Portobello mushroom. The greens were placed on the very top, keeping them fresh and crisp. Some burger bars tend to place the hot patty directly on the greens, making them soggy and warm.
The beef patty was tender and differed in texture from the Portobello mushroom. However, both were very distinctive in feel and taste. The same counts for the Portobello burger. While some burger bars would choose to make a separate mushroom patty, De Burg uses the mushroom itself, making the burger a very juicy experience (in a positive sense).
De Burg | Green Delight
Although the burgers, including the fries on the side, were already quite filling, I really wanted to try the mushroom salad with Goma dressing. Fresh greens, thick and juicy tomato slices, and mushroom stripes were the crowning highlights of our De Burg experience. Perfect to share, the salad and its fresh crispiness counterbalanced the rich flavours of the burgers.
Although I didn’t mind at all, for some reason I unconsciously choose all dishes with mushroom. Don’t worry, there is plenty of other choice.
