Remember when healthy was still the opposite of tasty? Thankfully times have changed, as nutritious and wholesome food can actually be fun and delicious. YOLO in Tanjong Pagar seems to celebrate this lifestyle and adds another component – affordability. Many still think that healthy and tasty food needs to be expensive, but those days are gone too.
YOLO is located in the Icon Village on Gopeng Street, welcoming guests with a skateboarding dog on the wall and a modern and casual interior. Although the first impression doesn’t immediately convey the shop’s philosophy, YOLO stands for casual high-energy food.
A nutritionist crafted their entire menu, aiming to help you with your health goals. No matter whether you want to shape up, feel energised or seek to build muscles – YOLO has the perfect meal, including nutrition and calorie information. If you don’t care about any of that, you can just enjoy healthy quality food at an affordable price.
YOLO | A Refreshing Start
While the chefs went working on my food, I enjoyed one of their signature refreshers called ‘Cool Me Down!’. I totally expected a juice filled with large ice cubes, making them usually sweat and drip water all over the place. My drink, fuelled with apple, mint, and pineapple, had a really refreshing taste – thanks to the mint. Although the colour gave a weak impression, the taste was absolutely enhancing. I immediately considered getting another one.
Although their barley mushroom risotto with asparagus looked extremely inviting, I finally decided on the vegetarian lasagne with a mesclun salad and a gentle ginger dressing. Layered in between the lasagne sheets, carrots, zucchini, and aubergine were all soft and full of texture. While you might expect a lasagne to be very creamy, this version felt very light but still rich in flavour.
Besides the lasagne, I also opted for their twist on the Vietnamese roll, which was filled with quinoa and creamy avocado wrapped in salad leaves. Served with a rich and intense (in a positive sense) coriander sauce, these rolls are very much a light bite. No matter what you choose as your main meal, the smaller bites offered at YOLO combine well and easily.
YOLO | The Sweet End
Normally I am not a big fan of muesli bars, as I find them too hard and sweet. However, as I was determined to try something from their ‘Sweet Treats’ section, I followed the advice of the friendly staff and tried the cranberry muesli bar. Guess what? I think I am starting to like these bars now. Soft and just a little crunchy, one could really taste that this muesli bar was homemade. Topped with just a few chocolate drops, the bar wasn’t too sweet at all.
The atmosphere during my YOLO review was rather calm, as I went in the mid-afternoon. Ultimately popular during lunch hour, YOLO will also deliver your lunch, bring an afternoon snack to your office, and serve for corporate events. No matter for what – you can make your order conveniently via foodpanda.sg. The reasons why I will be back are not only their signature smoothies and juices, but because the food actually left me vitalised and satisfied at the same time.
As we celebrate the joy of delivering fresh and healthy #food4all with you, check out our birthday video here and stand a chance to walk away with a $20 foodpanda voucher from YOLO.
