püWhile you were waiting for that special midnight kiss as you were counting down, making a list of New Year resolutions (which by now you know you’ll never keep), what habits did you decide on absolutely leaving behind together with 2015?
Most of us begin the New Year with full of hope and gusto, and absolute determination to change for the better over the course of the next 365 days. However as history has proven, we tend to forget all about the deep internal conversation we had that midnight- about changing ourselves and our habits -as soon as the first week of January ends! So we’ve come up with a checklist of top 6 habits to kick in 2016 which will hopefully ensure that the vicious cycle does not repeat itself.
1 | You stay within your comfort zone
Remember the steely determination with which you were making your wishlist last night? Well the list isn’t going to materialize as you sit with it on your comfy sofa. Get ready to try new things and look forward to failing!
2 | You’re failing to establish a routine
The entire “New Year Resolution” phenomenon essentially boils down to habit-making, and habits are built over time, i.e. routine!
3 | You procrastinate on Social Media
We keep telling ourselves and everyone around us to disconnect to reconnect, but somehow with this habit, it seems like the more we try the more we fail.
4 | Self-discipline (or the lack thereof)
We’re not even going to start explaining the importance of staying away from that chocolate brownie that has been on your mind ever since you first saw it.
5 | Neglecting the other aspects of your life
Whether you’re schooling, working or searching for the meaning of life, it’s always easy to get so self-absorbed that you forget about the bigger picture in life. Remember to occasionally take a step back from yourself and look around.
6 | Relying too much on smartphone apps
Everyone we know has a smartphone and every smartphone is loaded with multiple apps which we start using from the moment we open our eyes till they fall shut by themselves.
So bearing this checklist in mind, let’s hope to move towards building better habits and kicking the bad ones out this year! Happy New Year everyone!
