As we bid farewell to the SG50 month (all you Kiasu people be ready to say bye to all the crazy sales and promotions, don’t worry you got 3 more days to shop), in comes September with it’s hustle and bustle. Along with our favorite seasonal products like mooncakes, there’s also that one week of school holidays for families to take time off and enjoy together.
Unsure of what to do? Here are some ideas the foodpanda team suggested:
1 | General Elections
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you definitely know that our general elections are coming up. Our suggestion is, bring the family out and about to enjoy your moments of peace before the frenzy of politics and false-promises. Also, go vote. And remember to stay home and listen to the ever exciting announcement during the poling results.
Order foodpanda to because eating will keep you awake at least.
2 | Picnic
Nothing says a good family outing like a nice picnic. Singapore has no shortage of picnic locations too – Botanical Gardens and Marina Barrage are just a few examples. Before you set out to be one with mother nature, pay attention to weather forecasts especially since the rain is rather fond of paying untimely visits.
3 | Gaming Showdowns
Here’s one of the most convenient ways to have fun together as a family – play games! Parents could use the time to introduce old school classics like five stones and checkers to their kids, kids can whip out their fancy Xboxes or Playstations and watch their parents try their hand at console games.
Ever seen middle-aged parents try to play Dance Dance Revolution? Free laughs, people, try it now.
4 | TV Marathon
While not as healthy as the rest, you can’t fault us for including this in the list (we bet secretly you’re thanking us for suggesting such lazy things). It’s hard to catch up on TV shows with work and school in the way. This is the perfect time! Get DVD sets of your favorite shows, get the family on the couch and cry your eyes out together while watching Korean dramas.
Of course, you need comfort food with all those emotions running high.
foodpanda it, duh.
5 | Be a Tourist
One of the best things to do is to be a tourist in your own country. Go to places you haven’t been before, try new foods instead of your usual hangouts. Take the kids to Haw Par Villa and give them nightmares because it’s fun to watch them get scared (joking, or are we?).
You’d be surprised at how much you’ll enjoy Singapore seeing it all over again like it’s the first time. Instead of whining constantly about being bored with the same place and same things, take the family to places you’ve never ever heard of e.g. Lazarus Island (also haunted it seems, okay we’ll stop).
6 | Go on a Mooncake Hunt
What’s September without a little mid-autumn feel? Never too early to start hunting for mooncakes. Plus with today’s all sorts of variations and styles, the traditional mooncake barely even exists anymore with the influx of Oreo and Salted Egg mooncakes. Forget the calorie count and head out on a tasting spree! You’ll only get to do this once a year, so don’t worry too much about that diet. Just don’t turn into a mooncake lah, everything in moderation okay?
