Filled with cafes and cosy restaurants, Bukit Timah Road is a cosy little getaway from the city. We went to talk to the local to find out more about the exciting neighbourhood.

What do you like about Bukit Timah?
I don’t live here and don’t pass by so often. But it is rather calm and there are a lot of cool cafes.
What is your favourite place to eat and what do you normally order?
I actually just came from this café called Atlas. It is quite stylish and they also have good coffee. I definitely would recommend that one. There are a lot of young hanging out.
Why would you recommend the neighbourhood?
I would tell people to go and eat at the 7th Mile Bukit Timah Food Centre, which is a little closer to Ngee Ann Poly. They have really good fish porridge, which is one of my favourites.

Why do you come to Bukit Timah?
I am a student and as my school is close by, I pass by Bukit Timah Road quite often.
What is your favourite place to eat and what do you normally order?
When I am here I am mostly focused on studying. That’s why I often end up at Starbucks. It simply is one of the best places to study, so I end up eating there too. But there are many more cafes up and down the road.
Why would you recommend the neighbourhood?
It is definitely worth exploring the neighbourhood, especially the area that is closer to the Botanic Gardens. There are lots of cafes and restaurants.

What do you like about Bukit Timah?
The best thing about the area is brunch. There are many cafes that are just perfect for it. I actually just came from Atlas, but today I only had a coffee.
What is your favourite place to eat and what do you normally order?
There is the Greenwood Fish Market on Greenwood Avenue, just off Bukit Timah Road. Right next door are also many other eateries. That is surely worth checking out. There is also Bar Bar Black Sheep next to the Botanic Garden. I like it there because you can eat many different things – Indian, Western, and Thai food in one.
Why would you recommend the neighbourhood?
Because there is an interesting variety of food – no matter if local food or brunch. It is all here.

What do you like about Bukit Timah?
I work here, so I spend a lot of time here too. There are a lot of food options. It is also quite a safe and nice neighbourhood.
What is your favourite place to eat and what do you normally order?
In general I really like street food and sushi. Right now, I am actually going to eat at My Cosy Corner just around the corner. They offer local food and have really good popiah, which I think they are even famous for. They are located in the Coronation Plaza. I would also recommend the Fishwives, which is a place for gourmet food. Close by are also an ice cream and another sweets shop. I really like sweets.
Why would you recommend the neighbourhood?
It is a safe place and quite convenient to get around. The MRT access takes you now anywhere rather quickly.
