If you’ve had your fill of the autumn pumpkin spiced latte, it’s time to get excited about the Starbucks Christmas drinks. Hot off the coffee press, these wintertime coffees just dropped on November 4th and they’re already becoming fast favourites. If you haven’t seen the new menu yet, here’s our low-down on the delights you can expect.
Another round of seasonal coffees
Without a doubt, Christmas is the most magical time of the year at Starbucks. The popular coffee chain always goes above and beyond to give customers a festive experience, introducing everything from special red cups to snowflake-themed merchandise. Of course, seasonal menus are always Starbucks’ most popular ventures during the holidays. Their pumpkin spiced lattes, for example, have become a worldwide trend, selling millions of units and even appearing on TV shows. The Starbucks Christmas drinks may not be as well-known, but they’re just as delicious. This year sees 2018’s much-loved Toffee Nut Crunch Latte and Peppermint Mocha make a return, along with the addition of a new drink: the Holiday French Vanilla Latte.
- Holiday French Vanilla Latte – Replacing last year’s Gingerbread Latte, this drink is sure to be even more of a hit. With its sweet and cosy floral flavour, vanilla has long been one of the most popular warming winter spices. The ‘French’ part of the drink refers not to the origin of this vanilla variety but to the classic French tradition of using a custard base for ice cream. Using a similar flavour profile, Starbucks has brought a rich, velvet-like texture the Holiday French Vanilla Latte. To really amp up the festive ante, the drink is presented in a snowflake colour palette, finished with a blue butterfly pea foam and matching sprinkles.
- Peppermint Mocha – Candy canes are the staple sweet treat of Christmas, which is what gave Starbucks the bright idea to merge their peppermint flavour with coffee. The Peppermint Mocha uses the same signature espresso and steamed milk base most seasonal Starbucks drinks do, but it shakes things up by adding both peppermint syrup and chocolatey mocha sauce. The result is a drink that balances sweetness and coolness in one cup. This coffee gets its Christmas toppings in the form of whipped cream, crunchy candy cane bits and an extra drizzle of mocha sauce for good measure.
- Toffee Nut Crunch Latte – Crunch isn’t a word you’d usually associate with smooth coffee, but that hasn’t stopped the Toffee Nut Crunch Latte from becoming a favourite. Another twist on espresso and steamed milk, this latte gets its flavour from a generous helping of Starbucks’ special Toffee Nut sauce. The flavour is caramelised and buttery, almost reminiscent of another Christmas favourite-butterscotch. Topped with whipped cream and the titular crunchy toffee nut pieces, it’s the perfect drink to warm you up on a cold day.
